I was happy to see the addition of these characters. Thalia and Sorin, Evren's besties, take great care of Adara, and it's impossible not to fall in love with them while they do. While Evren's away, I enjoyed seeing Adara try to learn more about herself and the Starblessed and watching her train to fight and use her newfound magic. Thankfully, the author doesn't make us suffer for long, and this is not one of those stories where the hero is gone for the entire damn book. That being said, it does happen often in second books of fantasy series, so when it occurred, I was scared I was in for a near Evren free read. What I wasn’t prepared for was Evren leaving her in his kingdom so soon after they arrived. She's angry and doesn't want the bond she shares with Evren.or at least, she keeps saying that. I was ready for Adara to be epically pissed off after the betrayal that's discovered at end of the first installment, and I wasn't disappointed there. Now that I've read it, I'm like a fiend waiting for my next hit already! I adore Evren and Adara so much. A Kingdom of Stars and Shadows is one of my favorite books of this year, so I've been practically salivating waiting for A Kingdom of Blood and Betrayal to land on my Kindle.
